Good Saturday morning, everyone!
Good news regarding the Stokstad books. For those of you who do not have the 3rd edition, we will be collecting your texts and swapping them out for 3rd editions on Wednesday. Two important things here...first, I need to know who NEEDS a 3rd edition so that I can go to the bookroom and make sure we've got plenty to cover everyone. Secondly, you need to bring you current editions to class on Wednesday so that we can make the swap-a-roo that morning.
For the weekend, go ahead and start your Greek chapter regardless of what edition you have. You should start to read about the Geometric and Archaic periods first, as that will be the subject of our first assessment. Please understand that this chapter is HUGE and is vitally important for your understanding of pretty much EVERYTHING that comes after it! So take your time, read carefully, and take notes on what seems to be the main ideas. Remember, read a section (a paragraph, a heading, it's up to you...) and only write down the important ideas, rather than every single detail. We will fill in the details in class, so you need not write them down when you read!
Good luck, and once everyone is using the same edition, we will define the timeline of the readings a bit better.
Don't forget, your Sketchbook assignments will be due on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to seeing them! I have updated grades in the system as of Friday afternoon, so have a look and see how you're doing. I will update again early next week with your new Q-card grades (HW and Quiz) and your Quiz from Friday. Have a great holiday weekend!

Chapter 4 Materials
Hi guys. As you know, Blogger doesn't work well within Walton's network, so I can't make postings with attachments until I leave the building. As such, I have figured out a way around this. We will continue to have all of our discussions here, mainly because YOU can make comments, pose questions, etc. However, please add the below link to your "favorites" bar so that we can use it for posting any documents you may want to download. Hope this helps!

Sketchbook Assignment Resources?
Is anyone else having trouble finding details on the Duane Hanson piece? I have the basic details down, but to finish my draft, I need some information that goes a little more in depth. If you've found a good online resource that you'd like to share, that would be much appreciated.

Chapter 4 Reading and Note-taking update
Hi guys. Now that the Unit 1 test is over, we can turn our attention to Chapter 4 and Aegean Art. To further our discussion we had in class on Wednesday regarding effective reading strategies and note-taking strategies, I have divided the reading up into three sections for you. Hopefully this will make the material easier to digest, and will lead to more effective notes.
If you are struggling with notes (i.e. you are writing down nearly EVERYTHING you read), I want you to use the Cornell notes page. If you can take a chunk of reading, and condense it into one page of notes covering one idea or main topic, you are doing effective reading. Also, DRAW PICTURES AND DIAGRAMS of as much as possible! Even if you are not an artist, it will help you to commit those pieces to a deeper understanding.
Again, this class is a college-level course, as is most every AP course, and as such the reading will be vitally important to your success. If you are struggling to keep your head above water with this class (and balancing it with your others!), come in NOW to see me! Let's sit down together and see if we can get you on the right track! We may be able to come up with some tips and strategies to make this learning process more efficient for you.

The Pyramid of Djoser
I am confused on whether the Pyramid of Djoser was the first known pyramid or mastaba? Wasn't King Djoser buried under ground?

Sargon II Citadel
I had skipped this Q-card earlier, because I could not find any reliable information. Now coming back to it I still can not find anything; has anyone found a helpful website or something I can look at?

Annotated Mona Lisa
Hi guys! So we're scratching the Barnet book from the reading materials list for the semester. I found a much better (and greatly affordable) alternative! Please check out the link below and have a look at the book. You guys have a decision to make. We can do one of two things with the book...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0740768727/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Option 1...you each purchase your own book and in return can write in it. It's a great review guide for each chapter, and then of course for the December final and AP exam.
Option 2...Walton can purchase a class set (like our Gardner books) for use only while we're in class. Remember, if you make a SINGLE mark in the class set book, you are liable for it.
The book is under $20, but I am happy to go with whatever you'd prefer. Have a look and think about it. Then vote on the poll to the right with your choice. I'll leave the poll up until Monday morning.
Just finished with the Q-cards (finally!) and will be handing those back tomorrow. Still have some work to do on the quizzes, so you'll have to wait in suspense over the weekend until I can get those back on Monday. Sorry! I have one Q-card turned in with no name, so please check with me tomorrow to confirm if this is yours!
See you tomorrow...

Matrix?
Hi everyone. If you're having trouble with some of the boxes within the matrix, I posted a glossary to help you out. Hope that clarifies it a bit. Look to the right sidebar for the link to the glossary. See you tomorrow!
Stokstad book - edition?
Ok, so by now everyone in the class should have received his/her Art History textbook (Marilyn Stokstad's Art History. As there are several editions of this book in our school, please post a comment on this blog so I know which edition you have. You'll also find a new poll over on the right. Please make a "vote" there with your edition number. Please vote only once.
Barnet book?
I've heard that some students are having trouble finding the Barnet book at reasonable prices. Those of you who have looked either online or at a local bookstore, please comment on this post to let me know what you've found. Please don't stress about having this by Monday. We'll work together as a class to find the best pricing and best edition. You must be a member of the blog in order to make a comment, so please send me an e-mail to join if you haven't done so already.
